Searching for alternative funding

We understand that pursuing international education can be a high cost endeavor, so a self-funded offer may not necessarily be suitable for the financial means of all applicants. Fortunately, we know from our students, that many of them have been able to find alternative funding by searching for alternative scholarships or charity funding. They have found funding offered by their federal and state governments, large corporations, local businesses, or professional organisations.


These are scholarship searching platforms we have found by researching. Some of them are free, while some charge for their services:

  • Globalscholarships is a search engine tjat provides scholarships for students worldwide
  • Studyportals has an overview of various forms of scholarships
  • European Funding Guide is a platform that cover scholarships (including a search function using algorithms to match applicants with specific scholarships) but also all other types of funding
  • International Scholarship Search has a  comprehensive listing of grants, scholarships, loan programs, and other information to assist college and university students from around the world in their pursuit to study abroad
  • IEFA is a database of scholarships for international students
  • ScholarshipOwl is a platform designed to match you with the award opportunities that best match your personality, grades, lifestyle, and more
  • The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding offers a look at less well-trodden ways of funding your studies
  • Alternative Masters funding gives advise on e.g. portfolio or charity funding


Scholarships targeted at specific nationalities

For targeted scholarships, the first places to check are the Ministry/Department of Education in your home, and host, countries. You may not be eligible for all government funding schemes in your chosen host country, so it’s important to thoroughly check opportunities in your home country first.

If you do not see your own nationality in the list, but you know of a scholarship specifically for this nationality, we would be very happy if you would inform us about it so that we can include it, as well. We wish to help as many as possible from all nationalities.

Advice from our current students and alumni:

  • The first step is to put in lots of research and make a shortlist of niche scholarships you can apply to
  • Start your search as early as possible
  • Ask friends and family if they know of any scholarships or alternative ways to find funding
  • If you know someone from any of the previous Mundus cohorts, reach out to them to ask for advise
