The birth of a Mundus Journalism Network

Vera Dvorakova on the alumni LinkedIn group and the importance of the Mundus community

Back in summer of 2024, I was freshly graduated, newly unemployed, had just moved back to Denmark to live with my boyfriend, and was really worried about job hunting. Then, I got matched with my Mundus mentor Bettina Benzinger who told me I could connect with previous alumni on LinkedIn to help in finding a job. And so, the group was born!

As its "founding mother", I’d like the group to help Mundus graduates, both old and new, reap the benefits of what makes this program great: the Mundus community.

Three of us broke a (different!) limb at around the same time in Aarhus, unwillingly creating our own exclusive club

To me, this program has been one of the most life-changing experiences. Bettina and Morten may not want to hear it but it’s not just because of the lectures, workshops, or guest talks. No, to me, the best part was the people.

I remember spending the night with my Mundusians at DMJX working on our exams, eating snacks and laughing at memes about the French Miss Universe. It’s attending a Thanksgiving potluck where everyone brought their favorite dish from home to share. When I was recovering from surgery after a broken bone, it was my Mundus family cheering me up and keeping me sane.

When Vroni (left) came to visit me in Gdansk, after we traveled to Estonia and Finland together, we had to have a mini-Mundus meet-up with Lucie who works with me (right)

Even now when that we've spread across the world, from Denmark through the U.S. to India, we keep in touch, sharing pictures of impromptu mini-Mundus get-togethers and asking each other what is going on in our respective countries. We create Mundus islands at work – just my office has at least four of us – and send each other interesting job postings.

So, I hope this group can be a place for everyone to use their Mundus superpower and connect with the community.
