Mundus Vision Corner kicks of in Hamburg

Mundus Journalism has an impressive network of 500+ alumni. To connect some of these people, our Hamburg Specialism has started a series of networking sessions for those based in Northern Europe. Here is what happened at the kick off meeting of Mundus Vision Corner in July.

It is that time of the year when Mundusians in specialism years have either graduated or will graduate soon. The two exciting years of Mundus life end & Mundusians start wondering what lies ahead in the ‘Life After Mundus’.

In July, alumni from Berlin, Copenhagen and Hamburg met with the current Hamburg students in a cozy cafe at Sternschanze and laid out different career paths after graduation. This was the first meeting of Mundus Vision Corner which was organised by Hamburg Specialism for current and alumni students of Hamburg to talk about job prospects of Mundusians after graduation.

Over food and drinks alumni shared their own experiences of finding jobs and making a living in Europe. Alumna Fiona Huijie Zeng (China) is doing her PhD in Copenhagen. She told Mundusian who are seeking a career in academia about her route to PhD and shared tips from her own experience on how to ace a PhD interview. Adiliya Zaipova (Russia) who works in Berlin pointed out the job skills that are essential to acquire to land a job in Germany. She also told students about job portals to find jobs and the current work trends in the German media industry.

Ellie Sellwood (Britain), shared about her impressive feat of juggling three jobs after graduation before she secured a permanent job as a junior content manager at achtung! Gmbh. Helena Dedecek Gertz (Brazil) who recently started working at Statista Gmbh shared about how her internship at UNESCO Hamburg and her traineeship at European Center for Modern Languages Austria helped her get a permanent job right after graduation.

First in the series, we are aiming to hold regular MVC meetings to better connect alumni. The next meeting is expected to be held in September. If you want to join in, contact staff at the Hamburg Specialism.
