The tuition fee for the two-year Mundus Journalism Master’s programme remains among the lowest compared to other European master’s degrees of similar international scope. Furthermore, you will not be required to pay the full amount upon admission. Instead, tuition fees are invoiced in instalments of €4500 prior to each semester. For EU/EEA students, tuition fees are charged only for the second year of studies, as there is no tuition fee for EU/EEA students at Danish universities due to national legislation.
Two-year tuition fee:
Non-EU students: €18000
EU/EEA students: €9000. As EU-students are exempt from tuition fees in Denmark, the €9000 covers the tuition fee for the second-year studes.
For nearly 20 years, we have been proud to offer a world-class education at a tuition rate lower than many other European master’s programmes. Despite rising costs, we have worked hard to keep Mundus Journalism accessible to talented students from around the world by maintaining these lower tuition fees.
For the 2026–2028 intake, tuition will remain at this lower level for the full two-year programme. In order to keep the programme sustainable in the face of inflation and rising costs, tuition fees will need to be adjusted for students starting in 2027–2029 and future cohorts.
We are thrilled to once again offer Erasmus Mundus Scholarships for the 2026–2028 programme and the following three intakes. These scholarships are open to applicants of all nationalities.
They are awarded to the 10–15 highest-ranking candidates based on our official selection criteria, which include academic performance, relevant journalistic or media experience, and the quality of the Application Reflections section within the Application Form.
The Selection Committee conducts the primary assessment for admission, and the Head of the Programme’s Advisory Board provides an additional layer of fairness and quality assurance when reviewing the strongest applications shortlisted for scholarship consideration.
For a detailed explanation of how scholarships are awarded, please see our full selection criteria here.
Each year, we receive up to 600 applications and admit approximately 80–90 students, making both admission and scholarship awards highly competitive.
Eligibility for Erasmus Mundus Scholarships
Please note that applicants who have already completed a two-year master’s degree, or who have previously been awarded an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship, are not eligible for another scholarship, although they may still apply for self-funded admission.
All applicants must also meet the formal admission requirements for the Mundus Journalism programme. You can find the full details here.
An Erasmus Mundus scholarship covers both your tuition and your living costs for the full Mundus Journalism programme.
Scholarship holders receive:
A complete waiver of all tuition fees for both years of the programme
€1,400 per month for up to 24 months, which you can use for housing, food, travel, visas, and any other costs related to studying and living in Europe
Free health and liability insurance
Please note: The Erasmus Mundus Scholarships are part of the EU-funded programme, and we are in the process of finalising the Grant Agreement with the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).
All Mundus Journalism students can apply for an Erasmus+ stipend. So far, all eligible students have received this stipend. Due to the nature of the Erasmus+ programme, the stipend will be awarded to support the second year studies at the specialisation university. Information and assistance on the Erasmus+ stipend, as well as step-by-step guidance throughout the application process, will be provided by the Erasmus+ Office at Aarhus University after course start.
Allocation criteria if Eramus+ funding is low
Aarhus University will apply for funding from the EU every academic year. Occasionally we do not receive enough funding to cover all our Erasmus+ students going abroad.
If Aarhus University anticipates that that there will not be enough funding for all Erasmus+ students for the full mobility period, this is the criteria for allocating the grants:
Due to Danish legislation, Danish students must check with the SU Office to confirm whether they have enough SU available for a two-year programme in order for the Udlandsstipendieordning to cover the tuition fee for the Mundus Journalism programme.
