On 14 December 2009 students of the Erasmus Mundus Journalism program spending the second year of their M.A. at Hamburg University in Germany had the opportunity to visit the Deutsche Welle headquarters in Bonn.
Deutsche Welle is one of the world’s leading international broadcasters. The visit was part of the module on Media systems, taught by Prof. Hans J. Kleinsteuber, former Member of the Broadcasting Board of Deutsche Welle.
Dr. Helmut Osang, head of the Asia Division, introduced the Deutsche Welle Academie and its intercultural training programmes for journalists, which aims at strengthening the competence and independence of the participants. Important questions on general media development were also discussed such as: how much can mass media development contribute to the development of freedom, and what views of Germany does Deutsche Welle aim to present to the world?
