Dr. Sergio Godoy
Dr Sergio Godoy is Head of Research & Postgraduate Studies of Universidad Catolica de Chile’s School of Communications (UC), the country’s leading academic body in the field. He specialises in the business of communications, IT and electronic media, and has written extensively in the area of communications policy and management. Until recently he chaired the board of Sociology & Communications of Chile’s main research fund, Fondecyt, and was on the board of directors of Radio Chilena, Chile’s oldest radio network.
A Fulbright visiting scholar to UCLA (2003-04) and a British Council alumnus (1993-94), he got his Ph.D and MPhil in Communications from the University of Westminster (1998, 1996) and his MBA from the University of Exeter in England (1995). He graduated as journalist from UC in 1988.
Previous to his academic career Dr Godoy was an international trade and political analyst in London on behalf of the Chilean Ministry of Agriculture (1995-96), morning editor of the news briefings for Chile’s Presidency of the Republic (1990-93) and for the campaign of president Eduardo Frei (1993), head of corporate communications for the Participa Corporation (1990-92), electoral observer in Eastern Europe (1990-92), and a television producer (1987-90).
