Personal background

Inka’s present research focuses on media and democratisation in transitional societies, especially in Central and Eastern Europe. Other research interests include comparative media system analysis, innovations in digital journalism, and press freedom and pluralism.

Biography

Inka gained her PhD in 2004 with a distinction from the University of Helsinki and this was followed by a three-year Research Fellowship funded by the Academy of Finland. She has been Associate Professor in Communication at the Tallinn University, Estonia and Visiting Fellow at St. Antony’s College, Oxford, as well as at Central European University, Hungary, University of Leuven, Belgium and University of Westminster, UK.

Publications

  • Inka has contributed over fifty chapters and articles to a number of edited collections and journals including European Journal of Communication, Journalism, Qualitative Inquiry, International Journal of Cultural Studies, Journal of Elections, Public Opinion & Parties, The Communication Review, and Television and New Media.
  • Her most recent books include: Communicating the Nation (with Anna Roosvall, 2010), Media Geographies. Newspapers and Economic Crisis (2009) and Manufacturing Europe: Spaces of Democracy, Diversity and Communication (ed., 2009).
