Year 1: Foundation (Aarhus, Denmark)

The first year is spent in Denmark at Aarhus University and the Danish School of Media and Journalism, and is a progression through knowledge and methodologies that prepares students for the more specialized focus at one of the other European partner universities.

In the foundational year, students will:

  • gain thorough knowledge about the economic, political, social and cultural contexts of globalisation
  • creatively apply concepts, methods, principles and theories relevant to the study of and practices within global media and journalism.

The first course in the foundational year, Reporting Global Change, builds a bridge between students’ journalistic experiences and the conceptual framework of academic analyses of globalisation.

After expanding this framework from within political science and media studies the focus shifts towards methodologies of research and journalism.

The last course of the foundational year, Analytical Journalism, integrates insights and elements from the first five courses into an advanced journalistic practice.
