“An empirical triumph with policy relevance – truly unique in our field” Professor George A. Lopez, University of Notre Dame
Fragile States argues that violence and state fragility are linked. It examines in detail the reasons behind state fragility in Afghanistan, The Congo and Haiti. It also looks at examples of states that have escaped fragility (Botswana and Costa Rica) and asserts that substantial outside involvement in rebuilding fragile states has not been very successful. Instead, we need to look at the larger economic and political conditions that make state fragility an enduring problem for millions of people around the world.
