She said she would develop an app that maps and tracks feminist initiatives around the world. The world's most influential woman has agreed to let her do.

Juliana Guarany receives her award from German Chancellor Angela Merkel

Juliana Guarany da Cunha Santos, Mundus cohort 2010-2012, has received a year long fellowship, presented to her by Angela Merkel. The Brazilian alumna and former reporter for Brazil's Veja Magazine intends to use her time develop a universal mobile application to fight abuse against women around the world.

With this project she successfully competed for a German Chancellor Fellowship. The fellowship allows her to spend a year at a German host institution, and Juliana has decided to return to the University of Hamburg where she completed her Mundus Journalism specialism, to realize her project.

She will analyse existing apps dealing with sexist assault as a basis for a multi-language app that can be used to alert about cases, deliver information and create a world database of abusive episodes against women. As one of the first Brazilians selected as German Chancellor Fellow, Juliana met Angela Merkel, patron of the fellowships, at the German ambassador’s residence during Merkel’s recent visit to Brasilia in mid-June.
