Google award for Mundus lecturer

University of Hamburg's Dr Wiebke Loosen will use a grant from Google to continue investigating new methods of generating news from online comments.

Dr Wiebke Loosen, senior researcher at the Hans Bredow Institute and lecturer in the Hamburg specialism of the Mundus Journalism programme, has been awarded the Google Computational Journalism Research Award (endowed with $80,000) for a project called SCAN: Systematic Content Analysis of User Comments for Journalists. Together with Professor Walid Maalej of Universität Hamburg and a wider international research team, she wwill develop a tool that aims to help journalists analyse user comments and generate new content from the comments.
